I'm subscribed to T-Mobile's old Value Plan (bring your own phones) and I added a $20 for 2.5GB data plan over live chat (because that option isn't available on the website...) roughly 2 days ago and data has been fine until moments ago I try and load a webpage on my phone and I get the generic T-Mobile page asking me to add a data service. It also says that my data plan is not compatible with my device (unlocked iPhone 5 directly from Apple). I checked my bill and it is $10 higher since 2 days ago before I added the data plan. Under services for my line, "2.5GB Mobile HotSpot" is listed. The live chat transcript I emailed to myself shows the chat rep explicitly stating that I have the $10 2.5GB data plan on my specific line.
What gives?
And also, why isn't the 2GB/2.5GB (500MB is free) option available on the website? The minimum I'm seeing is 4GB/4.5GB for $20. I was told that the website was undergoing changes; how convenient that these changes force less informed consumers to subscribe to unnecessarily expensive, higher-tiered data packages?
