apple-store-badge.pnggoogle-play-badge.png

What you can do with the T-Mobile app

What you need to use it

  • A T-Mobile account.
  • A T-Mobile branded phone with the latest software:
    • Android devices need to be on Android 6.0 or higher.
    • Apple iPhones need Apple OS 10 or higher. iPads aren't supported at this time. To log in to the app on iOS, you must disable Wi-Fi on your device.

Log in with T-Mobile ID for the first time

  1. On the 'Welcome screen', enter your phone number or email and My T-Mobile password.
  2. Tap Log in.
    • If you do not have a T-Mobile ID, tap Get T-Mobile ID.
    • Enter your registration information and tap Next.
    • A text message will be sent to your device, enter the code from the text message and tap Next.
    • Dual SIM with eSIM devices, like the iPhone Xs, will prompt you to log into whichever line you’re currently accessing data with.
  3. You will be taken to the Home page of the app.

Log in with T-Mobile ID as a returning user

  1. After launching the app the 'Login page' will be display. The login page will include your first name in the 'Welcome' message.
  2. Enter your password and tap Log in.
  3. You will be taken to the Home page of the app. If you selected a link that launched the app you will be directed to the link’s destination.

Log in with Touch ID

  1. On the "Welcome screen" enter your T-Mobile ID password and tap Log in.
  2. For first time set up:
    1. You will see a dialog box asking for permission to use your fingerprint, tap Ok.
    2. When the second dialog appears, touch your finger to the fingerprint scanner on the device.

Log in while roaming internationally

You must be connected by Wi-Fi when logging in to the app internationally.

  1. On the "Welcome screen" enter your T-Mobile ID password and tap Log in.
  2. On the "Account verification: screen, tap Text message or More options (will reveal your Security questions option).
  3. Tap Next and a verification code will be texted to your phone.
  4. Enter the verification code from the text and tap Next.

Log in with a different T-Mobile ID

If you have a Dual SIM with eSIM device, like the iPhone Xs, you might need the steps below to switch between T-Mobile IDs. Although we recommend you link all your numbers to the same T-Mobile ID so you don’t have switch back and forth.

  1. If you're not on the log-in page, tap MORE> Logout.
  2. Tap Not [your name]?, enter your T-Mobile ID and password, then tap Log in.

If you're running into problems with this app, check out our troubleshooting tips.

Content Blocking is a free service available to all T-Mobile customers that lets you block chargeable content. Keep in mind that free content isn't blocked, and Content Blocking doesn't work when roaming internationally.

What's blocked

Types of content that is blocked includes:

  • Storefront content: Chargeable applications from device storefronts (including in-app purchases), such as the Google Play Store
  • Donations: Charitable giving (such as Red Cross) or political donation campaigns. Also referred to as Text-to-Give campaigns.
  • Text collect service: Collect calls received from correctional facilities
  • Other premium content and service subscriptions: Including CallerTunes, Slacker

Add or remove Content Blocking

You can add or remove this feature through the T-Mobile app or through My T-Mobile.

First Responder Verification

We serve those who serve us by providing a discount on our signature Magenta plans. If you’re interested in switching to or signing up for a First Responder plan at T-Mobile, check eligibility and learn how to verify your status.

To add a plan and check current pricing, check out Cell Phone Plans | Family Plans | Compare Cell Phone Plans | T-Mobile

How do I get a First Responder plan?

We'll need to verify your First Responder status using the steps in the next section to get a First Responder plan.

  • If you are new to T-Mobile, you can call 1-800-TMOBILE or go to your nearest T-Mobile store to activate on Magenta First Responder.
  • If you already have a T-Mobile account, you can dial 611 to contact Customer Service to change your plan to Magenta First Responder
  • If the First Responder member is not currently the primary account holder, you may need to complete a Change of Responsibility. See Transfer account or line ownership for more information.

General Requirements

  • You're a present member, volunteer, or pensioned retiree of an eligible first responder organization.
  • You're the immediate family member (spouse, child, or parent) of a first responder who's been killed in the line of duty.
  • You have an active T-Mobile account with your name as the Billing Responsible Party (BRP) or Personal Guarantor (PG).
  • First responder credentials may only be associated to one T-Mobile account. If you have multiple accounts, you'll need to choose which account you would like to qualify.
  • The first responder must be the Primary Account Holder on My T-Mobile in order to verify.
  • Complete online verification within 45 days of activation by submitting acceptable documentation matching your first responder organization and status to help us verify your affiliation

Eligibility

If you can answer yes to any of these questions, you may qualify for a Magenta First Responder plan

  • Are you a state or local firefighter or volunteer firefighter?
  • Are you a state or local law enforcement professional?
  • Do you have an active EMT certification?
  • Are you a paid or volunteer ambulance driver, paramedic, or other emergency medical personnel first on the scene of an accident or natural disaster?
  • Are you a member of a Search and Rescue organization?
  • Do you work for a 911 operations center?
  • Are you employed by a state or local first responder agency in a role that supports first responders?

Who's not eligible?

  • Federal first responder organizations.
  • Hospital personnel.
  • Former first responders who are not a pensioned retiree.
  • Cadets or Recruits who do not yet have documentation showing their military affiliation.

Verify my first responder status

If you've already signed up for a first responder plan or are interested in adding it, you'll need to verify your status. You will have 45 days from activation to verify your status or your plan will become Magenta or Magenta Plus with no first responder discount which will result in a price increase of up to $20 per line. You will be asked to complete verification yearly.

To verify your first responder status, either visit a T-Mobile retail store and one of our retail experts will walk you through the process, or follow the steps below.*

  1. Go to https://promotions.t-mobile.com/FirstResponder
  2. Log in by entering your T-Mobile ID and password.
  3. Accept the Verification Terms and Privacy Policy.
  4. Enter details into the required fields for the first responder. If the name field does not show the first responder’s name and you cannot change it, you'll need to contact us to update the billing-responsible party's name on your account to get this offer.

  5. Select your first responder status: Law Enforcement, Firefighter, Emergency Medical Response personnel

  6. Verify and Continue.

* If you are the child, parent, or spouse, of a first responder killed in the line of duty, please dial 611 to speak directly with a TEX expert, who will be able to assist with the verification process.

In some cases (including most Business customers), you may be asked to provide additional details to verify your eligibility. If further information is required, we will notify you, and you may need to upload documents confirming your first responder status to complete your verification.

Acceptable Documentation

T-Mobile will accept numerous forms of verification based on organization and status.

  • Only one form of ID is required for submission, unless you have a special situation (such as if your name has recently changed).
  • Other documents that clearly show your first & last name, valid dates, organization and/or status are also accepted.
  • If the name on your document(s) does not match your current legal name (such as Marriage or Name Change) you must submit additional documentation (Change of Name, Marriage Certificate, etc.) with your form, or acquire a new copy of the document with your current name for us to verify your affiliation.
  • Any sensitive information such as Social Security Number, should be omitted, covered up, or blacked out when submitting.
  • The information provided is used solely for verifying first responder status and is destroyed after verification.
  • Acceptable file formats include .bmp, .gif, .jpg, .png, or .pdf.

Document examples

  • Volunteer or employee ID card
  • Paystub less than 60 days old
  • Signed affidavit issued from first responder agency
  • Pension certificate
  • EMS/EMT Certification

FAQs

Why does the first responder need to be the primary account holder? What if they were killed in the line of duty?

To verify that the First Responder member is on the account, they must be the primary account holder. This also protects them from fraudulent use of their name for the purpose of gaining benefits (a name can only be used once for validation and we wouldn’t want you to miss out on this amazing deal!). In the case of first responders who lost their life in the line of duty, the first responders spouse or family member may verify eligibility, but additional documentation will be necessary to verify status.

What does T-Mobile do with the information I submit to validate my status/validation?

The information provided is used solely for validation of status and is destroyed after validation.

What if I need extra lines for my Tablets or Wearable devices?

If you need data-only lines for other connected devices, standard Magenta for Tablets & Wearables and other Mobile Internet plans are available to add alongside your First Responder voice lines.

  • If eligible, we cover either the Basic or Standard Netflix subscription (depending on your plan) and you have the option to upgrade for an additional cost.
  • Netflix On Us includes one Netflix streaming subscription per account.
  • T-Mobile acts as the method of payment for your Netflix subscription each month after you opt in to Netflix On Us.
  • For existing Netflix customers, it may take one to two Netflix billing cycles for your Netflix billing to transfer to T-Mobile.
  • If you remove your Netflix feature from your account, T-Mobile will immediately stop being your Netflix method of payment. You will need to contact Netflix
  • You are responsible for paying the difference between what Netflix On Us is included in your plan and the subscription you choose from Netflix.

Getting support

If you're looking for support, you'll need to contact either Netflix or T-Mobile, depending on the type of help you need.

Netflix supports

Check out the Netflix Help Center or contact Netflix if you need help with:

  • Changing your method of payment from T-Mobile billing
  • Netflix account help (such as subscriptions, DVD support, or credit card billing questions)
  • Streaming issues when off of the T-Mobile network
  • Troubleshooting and using the Netflix app or website.
T-Mobile supports

Contact T-Mobile if you need help with:

  • Adding or removing a Netflix On Us Basic, Standard, or Premium feature to your T-Mobile account.
  • T-Mobile billing questions
  • Recovering your Netflix email address or if you see "No account found" when trying to log in.
  • Troubleshooting issues while on the T-Mobile network, such as speeds, or videos that appear to be slow or buffering.
  • Getting the Netflix app to open on your device.
Cancelling
  • If you cancel your T-Mobile account, you will immediately lose your Netflix benefit. T-Mobile will no longer be your Netflix method of payment and you will want to contact Netflix
  • If you want to cancel your Netflix subscription billed through T-Mobile at any time, you must first remove T-Mobile as your method of payment for your Netflix account.
    • Log into the T-Mobile App, your My T-Mobile or contact T-Mobile customer service to remove the Netflix On Us feature from your account first.
    • Contact Netflix to cancel your streaming account and determine if there have been potential charges applied to any previous method of payment you may have had on file with Netflix.

Additional Netflix accounts

  • If you have a DVD subscription: If you have a Netflix DVD subscription and you want to keep it, you'll need to set up a new streaming membership under a different email address when opting in to Netflix On Us. This way you get your streaming membership on us and you'd continue to be billed for your DVD service. If your DVD subscription also includes a streaming subscription, you may cancel that streaming vat any time with Netflix.
  • If you simply want to start a new Netflix account: If you want to create an additional Netflix account when signing up for Netflix On Us, you'll need to use an email address that’s different from the one linked to your existing Netflix account. You'll then have two Netflix accounts: one billed directly through Netflix, and the Netflix On Us streaming account paid for by T-Mobile.

Landmarks

A Landmark is an address that is given a name and saved to the list of Landmarks. For example, you could save your child's school address and give it the name School. When you look at the map page, your child's school would then show up on the map as School.

Landmarks are most useful with Schedule Checks. For example, if you create a Landmark at your home address and call it Home, you can then check whether your child arrived Home at a set time on a particular day.

To add a Landmark:

  1. Click Landmarks from the menu.
  2. Click Create a Landmark.
  3. Follow the instructions on the page.

Alerts

Alerts allow you to set a day and time to automatically locate a line. Once you create an Alert, the line is located and you are sent its location by text message or email per your preference. For example, you can set an Alert for 4:00 p.m. every weekday to make sure your child gets home from school safely.

  1. Click Alerts in the menu.
  2. Click Create An Alert.

FAQs

Can T-Mobile FamilyWhere® find a lost or stolen phone?

Yes, if the phone is turned on and in service, you can use T-Mobile FamilyWhere® to find it. Keep in mind that if your lost or stolen phone does not have GPS or if it does have GPS, but is not in clear view of the sky, your location may be reported as a wide area.

Why don't I always get a location?

T-Mobile FamilyWhere® uses GPS and other network technologies to obtain locations. GPS location can be very accurate if the phone can "see" the GPS satellites. If the phone is indoors or in a place where it cannot directly see the GPS satellites, the system automatically uses alternative location technologies. In these cases, you may receive a location with an accuracy of a few hundred yards or more. iOS devices always use these alternate location technologies. When you request a location you will be given the best possible location fix given the conditions.

In some situations, T-Mobile FamilyWhere® will not be able to locate a phone. The most common reasons are:

  • The phone that you are trying to locate is deep inside a building or car.
  • The phone is surrounded by tall buildings, hills, or trees.
  • The phone is powered off.
  • The phone's battery has run out.
  • The phone is not in T-Mobile network coverage.
  • Service on the particular line/number has been terminated or suspended.

In these cases, T-Mobile FamilyWhere® will tell you that the phone was not able to be located.

Do I need a text messaging plan?

A text message plan is not required to use T-Mobile FamilyWhere®. Even if you have text messaging turned off, you can still subscribe and use the service.
