Wireless Emergency Alerts

$
0
0

Wireless Emergency AlertsWireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) is a public safety notification system that enables authorized agencies to send text-like messages to consumers with capable wireless devices to alert them of emergencies in their area.

For more information, read about WEA on the FCC website and see T-Mobile's information and list of capable devices on www.t-mobile.com/wea.

Types of alerts

There are three types of messages:

  • Presidential Alerts

  • Imminent Threats to Life and Property Alerts

  • AMBER Alerts

How to turn off alerts

  1. Go to the Devices page and click on your device.
  2. Under How Tos click Media & Sounds.
  3. Click Notifications & ringtones.
  4. Follow the instructions for Emergency alerts.

You can't disable alerts issued by the President.

Wireless Emergency Alert FAQs

My neighbor got an alert but I didn't. Why?

  • Make sure your phone supports emergency alerts. For a list of capable devices, visit www.t-mobile.com/wea.
  • Alerts are geographically targeted, so only those in the threat area will receive the alert.
Example: If an alert is sent in New York, a customer with a capable device who lives in that area won't receive the alert if they're in Chicago at the time the alert is sent. Similarly, someone with a capable device visiting New York from Chicago when the alert is sent would receive the alert.

I have information on an emergency alert I received. Who do I contact?

You should contact your local public safety department as soon as possible. You can also visit the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) website or the FEMA website to try and locate an alternate point of contact.

How do I report an emergency?

T-Mobile can't generate emergency alerts. If you've come across an emergency situation, please contact your local or national public safety agencies.

Self-service short codes

$

0

Short codes give you access to your account details, plans and services, fast and free.

How short codes work

  • Simply dial the short code to get the information you need.
  • Non-T-Mobile self-service short codes are not supported on No Credit Check plans.
  • Codes 401, 403, 405, 409, 440, 441, 443, 444, 445, 456, 457, 459, 462 are T-Mobile Alerts.
  • Messages sent to 456 may receive a response back to let you know it isn't a monitored channel and to contact us via our Messaging department.
  • Most short codes are only delivered to the primary SIM card and may not display in the DIGITS Web Client, DIGITS App, Data with Paired DIGITS, DIGITS Talk and Text or LineLink DIGITS lines.
  • Short codes are country specific.
    • In each country, a short code has a different service running on it, so a service that is supported on 55555 in the U.S. supports a different service in Germany.
    • While overseas, you will not receive short code messages.

Netflix On Us billing

  • If eligible, we cover either the Basic or Standard Netflix subscription (depending on your plan) and you have the option to upgrade for an additional cost.
  • Netflix On Us includes one Netflix streaming subscription per account.
  • T-Mobile acts as the method of payment for your Netflix subscription each month after you opt in to Netflix On Us.
  • For existing Netflix customers, it may take one to two Netflix billing cycles for your Netflix billing to transfer to T-Mobile.
  • If you remove your Netflix feature from your account, T-Mobile will immediately stop being your Netflix method of payment. You will need to contact Netflix
  • You are responsible for paying the difference between what Netflix On Us is included in your plan and the subscription you choose from Netflix.

Getting support

If you're looking for support, you'll need to contact either Netflix or T-Mobile, depending on the type of help you need.

Netflix supports

Check out the Netflix Help Center or contact Netflix if you need help with:

  • Changing your method of payment from T-Mobile billing
  • Netflix account help (such as subscriptions, DVD support, or credit card billing questions)
  • Streaming issues when off of the T-Mobile network
  • Troubleshooting and using the Netflix app or website.
T-Mobile supports

Contact T-Mobile if you need help with:

  • Adding or removing a Netflix On Us Basic, Standard, or Premium feature to your T-Mobile account.
  • T-Mobile billing questions
  • Recovering your Netflix email address or if you see "No account found" when trying to log in.
  • Troubleshooting issues while on the T-Mobile network, such as speeds, or videos that appear to be slow or buffering.
  • Getting the Netflix app to open on your device.
Cancelling
  • If you cancel your T-Mobile account, you will immediately lose your Netflix benefit. T-Mobile will no longer be your Netflix method of payment and you will want to contact Netflix
  • If you want to cancel your Netflix subscription billed through T-Mobile at any time, you must first remove T-Mobile as your method of payment for your Netflix account.
    • Log into the T-Mobile App, your My T-Mobile or contact T-Mobile customer service to remove the Netflix On Us feature from your account first.
    • Contact Netflix to cancel your streaming account and determine if there have been potential charges applied to any previous method of payment you may have had on file with Netflix.

Additional Netflix accounts

  • If you have a DVD subscription: If you have a Netflix DVD subscription and you want to keep it, you'll need to set up a new streaming membership under a different email address when opting in to Netflix On Us. This way you get your streaming membership on us and you'd continue to be billed for your DVD service. If your DVD subscription also includes a streaming subscription, you may cancel that streaming vat any time with Netflix.
  • If you simply want to start a new Netflix account: If you want to create an additional Netflix account when signing up for Netflix On Us, you'll need to use an email address that’s different from the one linked to your existing Netflix account. You'll then have two Netflix accounts: one billed directly through Netflix, and the Netflix On Us streaming account paid for by T-Mobile.

Smartphone Mobile HotSpot (Wi-Fi sharing / tethering)

$
0
0

Smartphone Mobile HotSpot (SMHS) - also referred to as Wi-Fi Sharing or tethering - lets you securely share your device's Internet connection with up to 10 Wi-Fi-enabled devices on T-Mobile’s high-speed nationwide network. If you want a plan with SMHS - check our Magenta or Magenta Plus plans.

Use SMHS

You'll need the following to use SMHS on your device

  • Wi-Fi-enabled or Bluetooth-enabled device
  • A plan that includes SMHS
  • Coverage as SMHS only works in 4G and 4G LTE coverage: View our coverage map.

Turn on and start using

  1. Turn on SMHS: On your SMHS device, turn on Personal Hotspot or Wi-Fi Sharing (SMHS). This See the Devices page for device-specific steps.
  2. Connect other devices to the SMHS: From the other devices, connect to the mobile hotspot network you just turned on.

If you don't want to use Wi-Fi, you can use a USB cable to connect to other devices (additional software and setup may be required on your device -- you can check the Devices page for steps).

Check SMHS amount & usage

  • See SMHS amount: Follow Manage your plan to see how much SMHS is included with your plan. This appears with your data & add-ons.
  • Check usage: Follow Check your usage.

Troubleshooting

Cost and eligibility

  • SMHS is a benefit included with Magenta, T-Mobile ONE, and Simple Choice plans.
  • The price varies based on your plan as different plans have different SMHS data allotments, such as 3GB with our Magenta plan or 20GB with Magenta Plus.
  • A data feature is required on your line for SMHS to function.

What's Smartphone Mobile Hotspot (SMHS)?

  • SMHS lets you share your phone, tablet, or Wi-Fi Hotspot's high-speed data with other Wi-Fi enabled or tethered devices.
  • You can share your Internet connection with up to 10 devices.
  • While connected to SMHS you can still make and receive calls and texts on your phone.
  • SMHS on your device is different from location hotspots, like the Wi-Fi you connect to at a coffee shop or airport, and hotspot devices, like the devices sold by T-Mobile.

Additional details

  • For Simple Choice customers, once you reach your high-speed data allotment, your SMHS and on-device data speed is reduced to 2G speeds.
  • Customers with a Simple Choice unlimited plan will have their SMHS speeds reduced after using 14 GB of mobile hotspot data. In either case, your data won’t stop — you’ll just experience slower speeds until the end of your billing cycle.

Use DIGITS on a corporate network

To use T-Mobile DIGITS on devices within a corporate network, your IT department may need to configure security policies or devices to permit DIGITS traffic. These settings are meant for IT professionals with specific knowledge of their corporate firewall, and familiarity with making changes to the firewall configuration. If you are not an IT professional, please pass this info along to your IT folks.

  1. Verify that all outbound proxy servers permit *.t-mobile.com.

  2. Ensure that the firewall permits the following network addresses and ports outbound to T-Mobile:

    • Destination networks
      • 66.94.0.0/19
      • 208.54.0.0/17
      • 208.54.128.0/19
    • TCP ports
      • 80
      • 443
      • 3030
      • 3478
      • 8080-8085
    • UDP ports
      • 500
      • high ports > 1024

If your firewall is configured as described above and your corporate network uses simple Network Address Translation, but you're still unable to use DIGITS devices behind the firewall, determine which network solution (SNAT, STUN, ICE, VoIP, or others) is appropriate for permitting UDP voice traffic (WebRTC/SIP) between the DIGITS device and T-Mobile in both directions. Stateful Network Address Translation devices aren't affected.

Log out

DIGITS app on Android or iOS
  1. Tap Settings (the cog icon in the lower-right corner of the app).
  2. Tap Sign out.
  3. Tap Sign out again to confirm.

Scam ID & Scam Block

Easily identify and block calls from likely scammers with Scam ID and Scam Block.

Improvements to protecting you

  • Network level protection has been added to stop the increasingly common “Neighborhood Spoofing” and prevent hijacked numbers (where scammers temporarily match the area code and 3-digit prefix of the person they are targeting) from reaching your phone.
  • Help us improve these services by reporting an improperly identified call.

Turn on/off Scam ID & Scam Block

Scam ID and Scam Block are free of charge with your T-Mobile postpaid plan. You can turn them on or off at any time.

  • Scam ID displays "Scam Likely" on your screen when calls come in from likely scammers on both smartphones and feature phones.
  • Scam Block allows you to block Scam Likely calls.

Click the button below to update Scam ID and/or Scam Block preferences.

Anonymous callers

The FCC mandates that mobile carriers allow callers the ability to block their caller ID information and place anonymous calls. T-Mobile is obligated to honor the privacy of the caller in these circumstances. T-Mobile can't block anonymous calls or override the privacy choice of the caller, but you may choose not to accept them. To make an anonymous call yourself, dial *67 before dialing the number you are calling.

For more information about privacy and security, please see our Privacy Center.

Caller Verified enhancement (STIR/SHAKEN)

  • New FCC standards of STIR (Secure Telephony Identity Revisited) and SHAKEN (Secure Handling of Asserted information using toKENs) have been adapted to help fight scam callers industry-wide. T-Mobile’s implementation of these standards is known as “Caller Verified.”
  • As of January 7, 2019 T-Mobile was first to market for calls between customers on our network with Caller Verified Enhancement, a new technology aimed at reducing spoofed calls to customers.
    • If you have a Caller Verified enabled device, you will see "Caller Verified" on the dialer when you receive a call that has been verified as authentic, not spoofed.
    • Caller Verified has expanded to include interoperable partners.

  • Spoofed calls occur when a scammer temporarily hijacks a number to match the area code and prefix of the person's phone number being targeted. SHAKEN/STIR technology lets consumers know that an incoming call is really coming from the number listed on the caller ID display – not a spoofed robocall or scammer.

Set up your voicemail

  1. Press and hold the 1 key or dial 123 on your device dial pad to call and connect to your voicemail.

    • Your password can be any 4 to 7 digit code.

Save and delete messages

Voicemails will be deleted if the auto-save period is reached. The auto-save period can be from 14 to 30 days, depending on the type of voicemail. If you hear "You have (# of vm) voicemail message(s) which is due to automatic deletion..." check out the steps below to save the messages or what to do if you didn't want to delete a message.

Save

After you've listened to your voicemail message, press 9 on the dial pad to save the message. You can repeat this to save the message in your voicemail box before the auto-save period runs out. If you would like to retrieve the saved message and save it to a different location, you'll need to have set up your My T-Mobile account or use the T-Mobile Visual Voicemail app to save messages. You can save a voicemail if it is less than 30 days from the day it was originally left or when it was saved.

Using your computer
If you're the Primary Account Holder, you can save your messages from your My-T-Mobile account.  These steps are for all Devices including Windows, if voicemail is less than 30 days old.

  1. Login to your My T-Mobile.
  2. Select Phone in menu bar.
  3. Select Check Voicemail on the right side.
  4. Select Download, to save to a laptop or desktop.

Delete

If you're listening to your voicemail and delete it, don't hang up that call! A voicemail message can only be retrieved before the same call is disconnected. Once the call has ended there is no way to retrieve the deleted voicemail message.

BlackBerry or Windows Phone messages

The migration will automatically delete any voicemail messages over 30 days old, played, unplayed, or saved, from the old platform. The voicemail platform migration is bringing an improved and updated experience to T-Mobile voicemail. Save your messages before the migration to prevent automatic deletion.

In order to prevent losing your messages, you must forward or save them before the migration starts, by following these steps.

Forward messages

All Devices, if voicemail is less than 30 days old:

  1. Press and hold the 1 key or dial 123 on your device dial pad to call and connect to your voicemail.
  2. Listen to the message you want to forward.
  3. Once the message has played, press 6 on your device dial pad to listen to more options, then press 2 to forward the message.
  4. Enter in the 10 digit number you wish to forward the message to and press #. Additional 10 digit numbers can be entered. Once complete, press #. The message has been forwarded.

BlackBerry

  1. BlackBerry 10: In the BlackBerry Hub or the Phone app, touch and hold a voicemail message.
  2. BlackBerry 7 or older: In the Visual Voicemail app, touch and hold a voicemail message.
  3. Tap Save As.
  4. Select the location, and tap Save.

Windows Phone

Unfortunately, Windows Phone doesn't have any way to back up voice mail messages - you could play them back via speakerphone and record them using the mic on a laptop or PC or you can follow the Save instructions above if the message is less than 30 days old.

Get messages in text

If you have the Voicemail to Text feature, you can add an automatic email option on My T-Mobile to retrieve your messages. Once added, every time you get a voicemail it will automatically send a text and audio copy to your email inbox.

  1. Go to My T-Mobile and log in to your account.
  2. Click Phone > Check Voicemail.
  3. Log into your Digits account.
  4. Click Settings> Voicemail to email.
  5. Click Voicemail to email (on the left).
  6. Click Turn on next to Voicemail to email.
  7. Follow the onscreen prompts.
