How to use voicemail

$
0
0

Voicemail lets you retrieve and manage voice messages, and it's included with your T-Mobile plan.

You can find instructions below, or download the voicemail menu options (PDF; 49 KB).

Set up your voicemail

  1. Press and hold the 1 on your device dial pad to call and connect to your voicemail.
  2. If prompted for a password the first time you access your new voicemail account, use the last four digits of your mobile number.
  3. When prompted, create a password. Your password can be any 4- to 7-digit code. A good password is one that’s easy for you to remember, but hard for others to guess.
  4. When prompted, record your greeting and name. Your voicemail is now ready to use.

Change your greeting

  1. Press and hold the 1 on your device's dial pad to call and connect to your voicemail.
  2. Press the * key to access the main menu.
  3. Press 3 to access the Greeting menu.
  4. Press 2 to record a new greeting. If you're replacing an existing greeting, the existing recording plays first.
  5. When prompted, record your greeting. Press the # key when you're done recording.
  6. Press 1 to set your recording as your voicemail greeting.

Check your messages

To check your voicemail messages, follow the steps below. (If you're traveling internationally, read our International roaming checklist to learn how to check your messages.)

From your device:

Press and hold the 1 key on your device's dial pad. Or call 123.

From a landline:

  1. Using a landline, call the mobile number.
  2. Interrupt the voicemail greeting by pressing the * key.
  3. When prompted, enter your voicemail password.
  4. Follow the menu prompts to check your voicemail messages.
Note: Any applicable landline long-distance fees are the responsibility of the account owner.

Change your password

By default, you aren't asked for your password or PIN when checking your voicemail from your device. However, if you have your outgoing caller ID blocked, you're required to enter your password when you call your voicemail from your device. This step is for the security of your account, since the voicemail system doesn't recognize your mobile number when it's blocked. T-Mobile recommends that you turn on your voicemail password for added security. A good password is one that's easy for you to remember, but hard for others to guess.

Using your device's dial pad

  1. Press and hold the 1 on your device's dial pad to call and connect to your voicemail.

  2. Press the * key to access the main menu.
  3. Press 5 to access the Password Security menu.
  4. To change your password, press the 1 key.

Save or download a message

For T-Mobile ONE and other postpaid accounts:

You can log in to My T-Mobile to save voicemail to a computer as an MP3 file, or you can forward messages to an email address.

For Pay in Advance accounts:

If you don't have an Android device with T-Mobile Visual Voicemail or an iPhone with the voicemail feature that came with it, you'll need to call your Voicemail regularly to resave the messages before they expire.

T-Mobile Visual Voicemail app:

If you have an Android device, you can use the T-Mobile Visual Voicemail app.

  • Forward individual voicemail messages to an email address or store them in a third-party cloud solution.
  • Save messages on the device memory/SD card as an AMR file.
  • Save the messages as MP3 files by downloading them from My T-Mobile to a computer.

Voicemail to web (for all devices):

  2. Select Sign In and log on with your T-Mobile ID.
  3. Select an account verification method.
  4. Choose the line you want to manage.
  5. Select the Voicemail icon.
  6. Listen, save, or respond to your voicemails in any order.

Advanced Messaging

Advanced Messaging is T-Mobile’s next generation messaging service that allows you to send high-resolution photos and larger video files. You can also see when your messages have been delivered, when they are read, and even when others are typing a response! There is no app to download, no separate account to configure, and no password to enter.

About Advanced Messaging

  • Advanced Messaging uses Rich Communication Services (RCS), a high-tech replacement for SMS and MMS that upgrades the messaging experience.
  • If you have an Advanced Messaging-capable device, you can benefit from these enriched messaging features:
    • Instant access: Advanced Messaging is available directly in your device's built-in messaging application.
    • No additional downloads needed: It has many of the features of downloadable apps, but uses the phone number you already have and nothing else.
    • Is typing: You can see when other participants are typing a message.
    • Read and Delivered: Not only do you know that your message was sent, you can see when the message is delivered and when it's read.
    • Support for richer multimedia: Send up to 10 MB worth of multimedia, such as photos, videos, and audio.

Manage Advanced Messaging preferences

Advanced Messaging comes enabled out of box. You don’t have to do anything to get started. To learn how to manage Advanced Messaging preferences, check out the Devices page for your device.

FAQs

What devices support Advanced Messaging?

You can check if a device has Advanced Messaging by visiting Tech specs> Connectivity for any device in Devices.

Do I need to do anything special to turn Advanced Messaging on?

All devices in a messaging conversation have to support T-Mobile Advanced Messaging. The Messages app on your device is either ready to go out of the box or is updated through a software update. The devices have to either be on the T-Mobile 4G LTE network (with VoLTE turned on) or using T-Mobile WiFi Calling.

Will Universal Profile 1.0 work across different carriers? If so, when will that support happen?

For now, this is something you can only get at T-Mobile and Metro by T-Mobile on Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge devices with the latest firmware. It's up to the other carriers to adopt the Universal Profile 1.0 standards so you can enjoy these next-gen messaging features across wireless providers.

Manage your data services

Data usage varies from person to person. It depends on your device, the apps you use, network speeds, and what you’re using the data for.

For example, sending or receiving emails uses very little data, while online gaming or streaming videos, TV, and movies uses much more. We'll show you how to check your data usage, and change your data plan.

Click the button below to check your usage.

Tips for managing data

  • Connect to Wi-Fi when you can. Data used over Wi-Fi doesn't count against your high-speed data plan.
  • Turn off data for apps that you only want to use over Wi-Fi. Most devices have a setting to turn off cellular usage for specific apps.
  • Uninstall any apps or widgets you don't need. Some apps access data even while the screen isn't on.
  • Edit your Facebook settings to turn off automatic video play while connected to cellular data.
  • The easiest way to view your data usage and manage your data plan is from your mobile device with the T-Mobile app.

View your data usage

From your mobile device with the T-Mobile app:

  1. Open the T-Mobile app. If you don't have it, download the T-Mobile app now.
  2. If prompted, log in to your account using your T-Mobile ID and password.
  3. In the Data tile, tap Check Usage. You can then either:
    • Tap Check Usage on the Data tile, or
    • Tap View details on the Data Stash Usage tile.

From a computer:

  1. Go to My T-Mobile and log in to your account using your T-Mobile ID and password.
  2. At the top of the page, click USAGE.
  3. Do one of the following:
    • Select an individual line to see data usage for that line.
    • Select View all usage details in the upper-right corner to see usage details for all lines on the account.
  4. Select Data.

Change your data plan

From your mobile device with the T-Mobile app:

  1. Open the T-Mobile app. If you don't have it, download the T-Mobile App now.
  2. If prompted, log in to your account using your T-Mobile ID and password.
  3. In the Data tile, select Check Usage.
  4. If you want to change your data service, tap Change Data Plan on the Data Stash Usage tile
  5. Select the button next to the amount of data you want. For more information about the various data options, tap the little information icon (the letter "i") next to each one.
  6. Select the bill cycle from the EFFECTIVE DATE drop-down menu.
  7. Click Agree and Submit.

From a computer:

  1. Go to My T-Mobile and log in to your account.

FAQs

What do I need to do to use the eSIM with T-Mobile?

Getting started is easy. You’ll first need an iPhone XS, XS Max, or XR with iOS 12.1.1 or later purchased from T-Mobile or unlocked if purchased from another retailer. Then download the T-Mobile eSIM app from the App Store. Enter an email address to create your new T-Mobile prepaid account and then follow the activation steps to select your plan. Current T-Mobile customers will have to enter a new email address if it’s already connected to a T-Mobile account.

For more instructions on how to set up and use your eSIM line after the activation has completed, please visit https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT209044.

What plans are available for T-Mobile eSIM activation?

T-Mobile offers three prepaid plans for eSIM activation. They are:

  • T-Mobile ONE Prepaid with unlimited voice, text, and data for $70; 30 day expiry with renewal option
  • Simply Prepaid with unlimited voice, text, and 10GB of LTE data for $40; 30 day expiry with renewal option
  • Tourist Plan with 1000 minutes, unlimited text, and 2GB of LTE data for $30; 21 day expiry

Do I need to pay any fees to activate eSIM with T-Mobile?

At this time there are no fees to activate eSIM with T-Mobile.

Can I activate eSIM as a standalone account at T-Mobile?

Yes. If you already have an iPhone from another provider and want to activate a prepaid line, you can activate eSIM as your standalone T-Mobile account. However, if your iPhone is locked to another service provider, you will need to unlock it before you can activate a T-Mobile eSIM.

Why are you choosing to support eSIM with an app?

T-Mobile is making it simple to light up eSIM. Just download the app and select a prepaid plan that works for you. No trekking to a store or juggling two different physical SIM cards – adding a line is done from the convenience of the app, wherever you are. The eSIM app was built for travelers coming to the U.S., existing T-Mobile customers who want a secondary pre-paid line and anyone who wants to take the Un-carrier out for a test drive to try out America’s fastest 4G LTE network.

FamilyMode Home Base

$
0
0

Use this document to set up the FamilyMode Home Base to your wireless network.

About FamilyMode Home Base

  • Home Base allows you to manage every connected device on your wireless network at home.
  • Home Base works by pairing directly with your router and inspecting all the data that comes through your home network.
  • You will need to use the FamilyMode app to control all connected devices.
  • Has the ability to control laptops, smart TV's, game consoles and anything else connected to your wireless network.
  • Cost: $20.00

Setup

Set up the Home Base to your wireless network to begin monitoring all devices that are connected and using your wireless internet.

  1. Ensure your router is compatible with Home Base. For additional details, you can visit the manufacturer's website.
  2. Connect the Home Base to a power supply, then connect to the wireless router.
  3. Open the FamilyMode app, then tap Menu.
  4. Tap Set up Home Base.
  5. Make sure the device is connected to the same wireless router as the Home Base, then tap Continue.
  6. Follow the additional prompts on the device to pair the Home Base with the wireless network.

Wireless devices

When you set up the Home Base, you’ll have access to a whole new group of connected devices to manage with FamilyMode app.

Wi-Fi Devices Are Unmanaged By Default

Wi-Fi devices discovered by Home Base will be set to Unmanaged when they join, meaning that FamilyMode won’t interact with their Internet connection at any point. If you assign one to a Profile, it’ll be managed just like your mobile devices on your home network.

The Home Profile

The Home Profile is where all shared family devices live. You set a baseline Filter, plus any OffTimes or BedTimes to apply to all these devices. You can use this Home Profile any way you’d like by assigning the devices that make sense for your home.

Network Gear & Smart Home Devices

Leave all network gear and smart home devices Unmanaged. Any interference with Home Base may cause unexpected issues with these utilities and services. So, make sure that mesh Wi-Fi extenders and network fabric, as well as Internet of Things (IoT) devices like smart appliances, are never assigned to a Profile.

LED indicators

You can see what each LED indicator means on your Home Base here:

  • Solid light: Home Base is on and paired with your device
  • Solid off: Home Base is not on
  • Slow blinking light: Home Base is powered on, but not paired to your device
  • Quick blinking light: Home Base either is resetting, has a low battery or other internal errors

Performing a factory reset

Make sure that Home Base is powered on, and then locate the power button. To perform a factory reset do the following. Make sure you hear the power button click and then start your count. Make sure you are counting a full five seconds.

  1. Hold the Power button down for 5 seconds
  2. Release the Power button.
  3. Hold the Power button down for 5 seconds.
  4. Release the Power button.
  5. Press the Power button once and then release.

Guest networks, mesh networks, and Wi-Fi extenders

Guest networks

  • Many routers have the ability to broadcast a main network and separate guest network. Guest networks are unique networks with their own names and passwords, though they originate from the same hardware.
  • The main benefit of using a guest network is that it allows folks to provide guests with Internet access in a home, office, other location while also protecting the security of their normal network.
  • Because it is a totally separate network, folks who join a guest network are isolated from the main network and won't be able to see devices or shared services (like printers) in use on the main network. Under most circumstances, you can still use your guest network with the Home Base paired to your main network. There are, however, a few things to keep in mind:
    • The Home Base will not manage the guest network. Because the guest network is totally separate, the Home Base will not see any Internet activity on that network.
    • Use a password to prevent getting around your Home Base. This will prevent unauthorized users from accessing your guest network without permission. Only give the guest network password to people who you don't want your Home Base to manage.
    • Some routers have guest networks that are incompatible with the Home Base. While many routers offer guest networks that work well with the Home Base paired with the main network, there are a few routers with known incompatibilities.
  • The Home Base is able to pair to a guest network that is broadcasted over the 2.4GHz band.
    • Some dual-band routers have the ability to broadcast guest networks on both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, and your Home Base will be able to manage traffic over both bands. But, the Home Base will only pair with the 2.4GHz network.
    • The Home Base will not manage Ethernet connections if paired with a guest network.

Mesh networks

  • The Home Base works with a majority of mesh network systems, but occasionally they can create issues during setup.
  • When you're initially setting up the Home Base, you might need to separate the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands and power down your mesh networks satellite units, while leaving the main gateway up. Your gateway unit is the one that is connected to your home's modem via an Ethernet cord.
  • Satellite units might connect to it via ethernet, or more likely, via a mesh wireless network. Pair your Home Base to the 2.4GHz network, and then plug it in via ethernet. Afterward, you can bring your satellite units back up. Just make sure to set them as "Unmanaged" if they appear in the FamilyMode app's device list.

Wi-Fi extenders

  • We do not recommend pairing the Home Base with an extender's Wi-Fi network if you have the option.
  • If you have an extender on your network and are having issues setting your Home Base up, try powering off the extender temporarily until your Home Base is paired. Then plug your Home Base directly into your router using the provided ethernet cord and power on the extender.
  • Don't pair your Home Base with a Wi-Fi network that has the same name as your normal network but with an added "_EXT". That's the extender's network, and pairing to that will mean your Home Base can't see the rest of your network.

Easily identify and block calls from likely scammers with Scam ID and Scam Block.

Scam ID and Scam Block are free of charge with your T-Mobile postpaid plan. Scam ID displays "Scam Likely" on your screen when calls come in from likely scammers on both smartphones and feature phones. Scam Block allows you to block Scam Likely calls. You can turn them on or off at any time. And now, network level protection has been added to stop the increasingly common “Neighborhood Spoofing” and prevent hijacked numbers (where scammers temporarily match the area code and 3-digit prefix of the person they are targeting) from reaching your phone.

Help us improve these services by reporting an improperly identified call.

Anonymous callers

The FCC mandates that mobile carriers allow callers the ability to block their caller ID information and place anonymous calls. T-Mobile is obligated to honor the privacy of the caller in these circumstances. T-Mobile can't block anonymous calls or override the privacy choice of the caller, but you may choose not to accept them. To make an anonymous call yourself, dial *67 before dialing the number you are calling.

For more information about privacy and security, please see our Privacy Center.

If there's a music streaming service you think should be part of Music Freedom, tweet us your favorite service @TMobile #MusicFreedom.

Things to keep in mind:

  • To stream music without using data, you need to use the specific music streaming app on your device (and not stream to devices using Mobile Hotspot or tethering).
  • If you're on a Simple Choice North America rate plan, the music streaming services with Music Freedom still don't count against your data allotment while traveling in Mexico or Canada. International availability of streaming services does vary, so make sure to check with your streaming service provider before you go.
  • If you're roaming domestically, you're subject to roaming data limits.
  • If traveling internationally and you're on a Simple Choice plan, you already enjoy unlimited data in 210+ countries and destinations. Streaming with Music Freedom while abroad never counts against your domestic high-speed data, but you should always check with the streaming provider for regional availability.
  • Most music streaming includes small amounts of non-music streaming data, such as album art and pic advertisements. This non-music data does count against your high-speed data bucket. The amount of data varies by streaming partner and the device being used. If you stream music for hours at a time, you can expect to see an increase in your data usage.
  • When connected to Wi-Fi, your device uses zero data regardless of your streaming choices.

Learn about text and picture messaging services.

Text messaging

Text messaging (SMS) is a two-way mobile messaging service that allows you to send and receive short text and email messages on text-capable mobile devices. You can use text messaging with both T-Mobile and non-T-Mobile customers.

Things you should know:

  • Messages are limited to 160 characters. If a message exceeds 160 characters, it's automatically converted to a picture message (MMS). See "Picture messaging," below.
  • T-Mobile doesn't save or keep copies of text messages.
    • We can't retrieve deleted or missed messages.
    • You can't access your text messages from our website, since we don't keep copies.
    • Some email services allow for text messages to be forwarded to your email, so check with your email provider to see if this is a service they offer.
  • Each mobile number has its own email address in this format: your10digitmobilenumber@tmomail.net.
      Example: 6105551212@tmomail.net
  • Having problems with spam? Read Caller ID spoofing and text messaging spam, and phishing.
  • Learn how to block messages.
  • Need a special ring tone for a text message? You can find steps to do this in Devices.

Messaging rates

T-Mobile One and Simple Choice offer unlimited text and picture messaging. Older plans may include a monthly allotment of messages (text, picture, video, and IM). You can check your monthly allotment by logging into My T-Mobile and visiting the PLAN section.

You aren't charged for messages you receive from T-Mobile.

Picture messaging

Picture messaging (MMS) is a service that allows you to send and receive messages with multimedia content, not necessarily just text. Picture messaging lets you send or receive messages containing pictures, video, text, audio, or a combination.

  • Because of the larger size, a picture message can take longer to get to your mobile device than a text message (SMS).
  • Videos can only be sent between handsets that support video messaging.
  • Go to Devices to learn how to send picture messages, and see if your device supports it.
  • The maximum size per message is:
    • Sending: 1 MB
    • Receiving: 3 MB (The sender's carrier may limit their message to less than 3 MB.)
  • Pictures:
    • Can't exceed the resolution 3072 x 3072.
    • Are resized on the receiving device to fit the screen.
    • Are received in original format (Network limitations apply).

We are committed to launch new, meaningful features and services that give our customers the best experience on the T-Mobile network. As of June 28, 2018, our network supports this technology on selected devices with more coming in the future. It's up to the other carriers to adopt the Universal Profile 1.0 standards so you can enjoy these next-gen messaging features across wireless providers.
