Binge On® how-tos

$

0

Learn steps for Binge On, including turning it off (or back on) if you are on a Simple Choice or prepaid plan.

Managing your Binge On settings

As a T-Mobile customer, Binge On is automatically enabled so your data will stretch up to three times further when you are streaming video. You do have the option to turn it off (or back on) at any time. If you disable Binge On, video streaming is no longer optimized, resulting in your 4G LTE data being consumed faster, and all video streaming will count toward your high-speed data. You're free to disable Binge On at any time, and then enable it again whenever you like. It's your choice.

If you decide to turn it off, you should stop any video streaming before you make a change to your Binge On status.

Managing Binge On using self-service short codes

You can use these short codes to manage your Binge On settings directly from your device:

Web Guard

$
0
0

Web Guard is a free service that you can use to help restrict adult content from being seen or accessed by family members under 18 years old.

If you're the Primary Account Holder (PAH), or someone authorized by the PAH to make changes to your account, then you can add or remove Web Guard by following the steps below. (For information about what a Primary Account Holder is and how to authorize permissions, see Set up My T-Mobile permissions.)

How it works

Web Guard helps block or filter web page content, but it won't block everything. It won't block user-generated content such as instant messaging (IM), email, and text messages. It also won’t block secured web traffic (i.e., from URLs that start with https), because encryption prevents Web Guard from seeing the content of those websites. The filter is not available on all devices, it might not work at certain times or in certain locations, and it doesn't work with downloaded, third-party web browsers.

Adding or managing Web Guard

Only the Primary Account Holder (PAH), or someone authorized by the PAH, can add or remove Web Guard.

From your mobile device with the T-Mobile app:

  1. Open the app. You may need to log in to your account using your T-Mobile ID and password. If you don't have the app, download it now.
  2. Tap the menu (which looks like three stacked lines) in the upper-left corner.
  3. Tap PROFILE SETTINGS.
  4. Scroll to and tap FAMILY CONTROLS.
  5. If you have multiple lines on your account, tap the down arrow and select the line you want to make changes to.
  6. Next to Web content filter, tap the drop-down menu and select a filter. You can also tap View filter levels to see what each filter does.
Note: If you want to turn off Web Guard for this line on your account, select No restrictions in the drop-down.

From a computer:

  1. Go to My T-Mobile and log in to your account using your T-Mobile ID and password.
  2. Access the PROFILE menu in the top-right corner.
  3. In the left menu, select Family Controls.
  4. If you have multiple lines on your account, tap the down arrow next to the line showing, and then select the line you want to make changes to.
  5. In the WEB GUARD section, next to Web content filter, select Edit.
  6. Select a Web content filter. You can also tap View filter levels to see what each filter does.
Note: If you want to turn off Web Guard for this line on your account, select No restrictions.
  7. Click SAVE.

Things you should know

  • Web Guard isn't foolproof and shouldn't be a substitute for parents or other account holders taking steps to monitor access to content.
  • If you're seeing an "Access Denied" error when trying to open certain web pages, Web Guard might be active on your line. Contact the Primary Account Holder to check the Web Guard settings.
  • Web Guard prevents access to adult web content only when your device is connected to T-Mobile’s cellular network. Web Guard doesn't restrict content when you're browsing over Wi-Fi or accessing content via an application.

Netflix On Us

If you have two or more lines on an eligible T-Mobile ONE tax inclusive voice plan, you can get a Netflix standard 2-screen subscription and Family Allowances on us! You can also upgrade to a Netflix premium 4-screen subscription for $3 per month.

What's included

If you're currently on or sign up for an eligible T-Mobile ONE tax inclusive voice plan, then you can get a Netflix Standard subscription "On Us" at no additional cost.

With Netflix Standard, you can:

  • Watch Netflix on up to two screens at the same time with HD video streaming.
  • Get access to unlimited movies and TV shows on your laptop, TV, phone, or tablet.
  • Take advantage of Family Allowances, which offers a variety of talk and text management controls for parents.

Netflix Premium subscription upgrade also available, allowing you to stream simultaneously on up to four screens at once with HD and Ultra HD quality when available for $3 per month with Netflix On Us Premium. You can change between subscription options at any time.

Things you should know

  • You'll need to have two or more lines on your account with an eligible T-Mobile ONE voice plan with taxes and fees included.
  • Netflix requires a compatible streaming device or app to use. Limit of one Netflix streaming subscription per account. If you already have a Netflix account, you don't need to create a new account. See below for information on keeping your existing Netflix account OR when you need to create a new Netflix account.
  • If you already have Family Allowances on your account, once you sign up for Netflix On Us, you'll be enjoying Family Allowances on us too – we'll even remember your settings (for up to 30 days from removal).
  • If you remove your Netflix On Us Standard or Premium feature from your account, T-Mobile will immediately stop being your Netflix method of payment. You will need to contact Netflix to identify any impacts to your streaming account and any previous method of payment on file.
  • If you cancel your T-Mobile account, you will immediately lose your Netflix On Us benefit. T-Mobile will no longer be your Netflix method of payment and you will want to contact Netflix to identify any impacts to your streaming account and/or any previous method of payment on file.

Netflix On Us is NOT available for the following plans

  • T-Mobile Essentials
  • No Credit Check
  • Prepaid
  • T-Mobile ONE voice plans with a single line

Keep your existing Netflix account OR create a new Netflix account

You can keep your existing Netflix account

If you already have a Netflix account, you don't need to create a new one. After you opt-in to Netflix On Us, you'll receive a text message containing a link to instructions on how to associate your T-Mobile account with your existing Netflix account. T-Mobile will then act as the method of payment for your Netflix subscription each month. During redemption, you can choose to keep your existing subscription or change between Netflix Standard or Premium (a $3 additional charge will appear on your T-Mobile bill each month with Netflix On Us Premium).

When to create a new Netflix account

  • If you have a DVD plan: If you have a Netflix DVD plan and you want to keep it, you'll need to set up a new streaming membership under a different email address when opting in to Netflix On Us. This way you get your streaming membership on us and you'd continue to be billed for your DVD service. If your DVD plan also includes a streaming plan, you may cancel that streaming plan at any time with Netflix.
  • If you simply want to start a new Netflix account: If you want to create an additional Netflix account when signing up for Netflix On Us, you'll need to use an email address that’s different from the one linked to your existing Netflix account. You'll then have two Netflix accounts: one billed directly through Netflix, and the Netflix On Us standard streaming account paid for by T-Mobile.

Redeem or upgrade your Netflix On Us subscription

Canceling your Netflix subscription

If you want to cancel your Netflix subscription billed through T-Mobile at any time, you must first remove T-Mobile as your method of payment for your Netflix account. Log into the T-Mobile App, your My T-Mobile or contact T-Mobile customer service to remove the Netflix On Us feature from your account first. Contact Netflix to cancel your streaming account and determine if there have been potential charges applied to any previous method of payment you may have had on file with Netflix.

Getting support

If you're looking for support, you'll need to contact either Netflix or T-Mobile, depending on the type of help you need.

FAQs

Who's eligible for this? And, what version of Netflix do I get?

T-Mobile ONE with Netflix On Us is only available to qualifying customers with two or more voice lines on an eligible tax included plan. New and existing customers, including customers in Puerto Rico and T-Mobile employees, are eligible. (For a list of plans that aren't eligible, see Things you should know above.)

With this, you can get a Netflix Standard plan (up to $10.99 per month) on us, which lets you stream TV shows and movies from Netflix on two devices at the same time and in HD when available. This plan also lets you download titles to two phones or tablets.

You can also upgrade your experience to a Netflix Premium subscription, allowing you to stream simultaneously on up to four devices at once with HD and Ultra HD quality when available for $3 per month with Netflix On Us Premium. You can change between subscription options at any time.

Will I automatically have Netflix included on my plan? Do I have to change my T-Mobile plan to get it?

If you have two or more T-Mobile ONE voice lines with taxes and fees included, the Netflix feature will automatically be available on your account, but you'll need to opt in to it. If you have a plan with taxes excluded, you'll need to change your plan before you can opt-in.

What if I only have one line on my T-Mobile account? Can I opt-in to this feature?

T-Mobile ONE with Netflix On Us is only available with two or more qualifying lines on a tax included plan.

T-Mobile Video Calling

$
0
0

T-Mobile Video Calling is a feature that's built in as part of the dialer on some T-Mobile phones.

Video Calling provides a streamlined way to communicate with family and friends through high-quality video calling. There's no extra charge to use it, but it does use your high-speed data.

Benefits of Video Calling

Since it's built in to your smartphone's dialer, there's no need to download additional apps or sign into a separate account. Video Calling uses Video over LTE (also known as ViLTE) to let you make and receive high-quality video calls. You can make video calls over LTE or Wi-Fi.

Benefits include:

  • Instant access: Video Calling is available straight from the built-in phone dialer.
  • No additional downloads needed: Video Calling isn't an app, so you don't need to log in to use it.
  • No change to your account: You use your existing voice and data plan to take advantage of this feature.

How it works

For it to work properly and to receive all the benefits of the service, all devices participating in a video conversation must support T-Mobile Video Calling. The software needed for it to work on your phone is available either out-of-the-box when you purchase your phone or through a software update of your current phone.

For help with Video Calling:

  1. Go to the Devices page.
  2. Select your device.
  3. Scroll down to Popular help and select Device tutorials.
  4. Under Browse by category, select Video calling.

When you use Video Calling, make sure that:

  • Both participants need to be using a T-Mobile Video Calling device (limited to two participants). If one of the devices moves out of range of the required network, the video will be lost and the call reverts back to voice only.
  • If any participant is connecting by LTE, VoLTE must be enabled.
  • If any participant is connecting through Wi-Fi, then Wi-Fi calling must be enabled.
  • A software upgrade may be required to enable Video Calling on your device. Not all devices have the software or hardware required for video calling.
  • Video Calling only works with domestic T-Mobile numbers; it doesn't work with international numbers. However, it will work for T-Mobile customers on Wi-Fi in another country.

This feature uses high-speed data. Because of the bandwidth needed to make a video call, once you exceed your high-speed data limit, you won't be able to use Video Calling again until your next billing cycle. If you want, you can always change your service to add more high-speed data. Or, you can switch to T-Mobile ONE.

Available on select devices

As much as we'd like to have all our devices equipped with Video Calling, right now it's only available for the following devices, either out-of-the-box or through a software update:

  • Alcatel Fierce 4
  • Coolpad Catalyst
  • LG Aristo
  • LG G Stylo
  • LG G4

Video Calling FAQs

Can I still use other video calling apps, such as FaceTime or Skype?

You can use whatever calling apps you want, but a call using T-Mobile Video Calling only works when trying to reach someone else with T-Mobile Video Calling. For example, a Skype call cannot be answered with the T-Mobile Video Calling feature. As we developed Video Calling, T-Mobile reached out to all the manufacturers of the devices that we carry, and we've invited them to incorporate the Video Calling feature into their devices.

Can I video call people that are not with T-Mobile?

No, but T-Mobile Video Calling uses an industry standard that all wireless companies are working on. As more and more companies incorporate it into their networks, we'll be able to connect our Video Calling service to theirs, allowing you to make video calls with friends and family who aren't with T-Mobile.

On Demand Data Passes

$

0

On Demand Data Passes let you temporarily add high-speed data by the day or week, whenever you need it to supplement your free data or to top-up a recurring data plan.

Why you might add a data pass

You can add a data pass for a number of reasons, including:

  • You're experiencing reduced data speeds after reaching your data allotment.
  • You're roaming domestically and want additional domestic roaming data.
  • You're roaming internationally and you want a higher data speed.

Additional passes can be purchased as needed once a purchased pass expires.

How to add for a postpaid plan

At this time, you can't add a data pass through the T-Mobile app, but we hope to make that an option soon. You can always add a data pass through My T-Mobile on either your computer or by opening a browser on your device.

  1. Go to My T-Mobile and log in to your account.
  2. Click PLAN tab at the top of the page.
  3. Expand (+) the line you wish to add the data pass to.
  4. Select Manage Data & Add-Ons under that line.
  5. Select the desired data pass from list and select Continue.

T-Mobile is providing more options for connectivity to airport Wi-Fi, starting with the LAX airport (in Los Angeles, CA). Using Passpoint technology, supported devices automatically connect to Boingo’s Premium Wi-Fi network.

About Airport Wi-Fi with Boingo

  • Using Passpoint, Boingo Wi-Fi Hotspots at the LAX airport are free for all T-Mobile customers with eligible devices. It does not count against high-speed data buckets or kick-back credits.
  • Devices capable of Wi-Fi Calling 2.0 can move calls between 4G LTE and Wi-Fi without dropping.
  • T-Mobile fully encrypts all voice, text, and picture message traffic over a VPN connection, giving the same security as using the T-Mobile network.
  • Like other public Wi-Fi hotspots, it is possible for bad actors to observe and capture data used in browsing or app use sessions.
    • We recommend using only fully encrypted sites (HTTPS).
    • Refrain from transmitting sensitive data while connecting to data through public Wi-Fi hotspots.
    • For more information refer to our Privacy & Security Resources for using Wi-Fi networks.
  • Your device may automatically connect to Wi-Fi (if enabled), to enhance the network experience at the airport.

  • Wi-Fi 802.11 a/c (5 GHz): Refer to the Devices page, find your device, and find the "Tech Specs" page. Check the "Connectivity" section for this information.

At T-Mobile, we believe everyone deserves a great smartphone.

That's why we want Smartphone Equality™ for everyone, a program that helps you get the best pricing on our smartphones and other devices, regardless of your credit score. In most cases, this means the lowest down payment available.

How it works

If you pay your T-Mobile bill on time for 12 consecutive months, you'll have access to the best pricing for our smartphones, tablets, and other devices available through T-Mobile. There will be instances where certain devices aren't offered as $0 down. However, as part of this program, you'll still receive the best pricing when upgrading.

A late payment

If we receive a payment that's late, including those made through payment arrangements, the 12-month clock will reset and you'll have to start again. We don't want that to happen any more than you do! We can help you avoid any late payments depending on which plan you're on:

  • If you have a postpaid account, we suggest you sign up for AutoPay. (No Credit Check plans are not eligible for AutoPay.)
  • If you're on a prepaid plan (such as the Pay in Advance monthly plan), you can set up an auto-refill. Just choose an amount and a date and we'll refill your account automatically each month. Find out how.

FAQs

Why are you doing this?

As with everything we do, we saw something broken in the wireless industry and decided to fix it! The Carriers’ dumbed down phones and patronizing ‘senior’ plans for people aged 55 and older are embarrassing. AT&T’s Senior Nation Plan, gives subscribers just 200 anytime minutes, unlimited AT&T to AT&T minutes and 500 nights & weekends minutes – and zero data. In fact, it’s limited only to basic phones. They assume this group of people don’t regularly use their smartphones or the internet!

We can do better than that – so we are. That’s why we introduced T-Mobile ONE Unlimited 55+.

If I have more than 2 voice lines, can I mix lines with the regular T-Mobile ONE rates?

No. This offer is limited to a maximum of 2 voice lines. If you need more than 2 voice lines T-Mobile ONE will best meet your needs.

Will I be automatically enrolled if I am over 55+?

No. The Un-carrier promise is that only our customers can change what they pay for their plan. You must choose to get T-Mobile ONE Unlimited 55+.

What forms of ID do you accept to prove age? How do you validate age if someone is calling in to Customer Care?

Learn about text and picture messaging services.

Text messaging

Text messaging (SMS) is a two-way mobile messaging service that allows you to send and receive short text and email messages on text-capable mobile devices. You can use text messaging with both T-Mobile and non-T-Mobile customers.

Things you should know:

  • Messages are limited to 160 characters. If a message exceeds 160 characters, it's automatically converted to a picture message (MMS). See "Picture messaging," below.
  • T-Mobile doesn't save or keep copies of text messages.
    • We can't retrieve deleted or missed messages.
    • You can't access your text messages from our website, since we don't keep copies.
    • Some email services allow for text messages to be forwarded to your email, so check with your email provider to see if this is a service they offer.
  • Each mobile number has its own email address in this format: your10digitmobilenumber@tmomail.net. Example: 6105551212@tmomail.net
  • Having problems with spam? Read Caller ID spoofing and text messaging spam FAQs
  • Learn how to block messages.
  • Need a special ring tone for a text message? You can find steps to do this in Devices.

Messaging rates

T-Mobile One and Simple Choice offer unlimited text and picture messaging. Older plans may include a monthly allotment of messages (text, picture, video, and IM). You can check your monthly allotment by logging into My T-Mobile and visiting the PLAN section. You can find rates for Pay in Advance (Prepaid) accounts here.

You aren't charged for messages you receive from T-Mobile.

Picture messaging

Picture messaging (MMS) is a service that allows you to send and receive messages with multimedia content, not necessarily just text. Picture messaging lets you send or receive messages containing pictures, video, text, audio, or a combination.

  • Because of the larger size, a picture message can sometimes take longer to get to your mobile device than a text message (SMS).
  • Videos can only be sent between handsets that support video messaging.
  • Go to Devices to learn how to send picture messages, and see if your device supports it.

Wireless Emergency AlertsWireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) is a public safety notification system that enables authorized agencies to send text-like messages to consumers with capable wireless devices to alert them of emergencies in their area.

For more information, please read about WEA on the FCC website.

Types of alerts

There are three types of messages:

  • Presidential Alerts

  • Imminent Threats to Life and Property Alerts

  • AMBER Alerts

For more information, including a list of capable devices, visit www.t-mobile.com/wea.

How to turn off alerts

For information about turning off alerts:

  1. Go to the Devices page and click on your device.
  2. Click How tos in the left navigation.
  3. Just below that, click Notifications, Pics, & Media.
  4. Just below that, click Notifications & ringtones, and follow the instructions for Emergency alerts.

You can't disable alerts issued by the President.

Wireless Emergency Alert FAQs

My neighbor got an alert but I didn't. Why?

  • First, make sure your phone supports emergency alerts. For a list of capable devices, visit www.t-mobile.com/wea.
  • Second, alerts are geographically targeted, so only those in the threat area will receive the alert.
Example: If an alert is sent in New York, a customer with a capable device who lives in that area won't receive the alert if they're in Chicago at the time the alert is sent. Similarly, someone with a capable device visiting New York from Chicago when the alert is sent would receive the alert.

I have information on an emergency alert I received. Who do I contact?

You should contact your local public safety department as soon as possible. You can also visit the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) website or the FEMA website to try and locate an alternate point of contact.

How do I report an emergency?

T-Mobile can't generate emergency alerts. If you've come across an emergency situation, please contact your local or national public safety agencies.
