Why will T-Mobile not credit money already spent on Pre-paid plans when upgrading to more expensive plan

I would like to switch to the family plan from my T-Mobile $30/mo 1500min 30mb and combine my wife’s T-Mobile pre-paid minutes plus add my son. So a 3 line plan $90/mo will be paid to T-mobile this is an increase of a $55-$60/mo. T-mobile states they will not credit or transfer money already paid to them to upgraded plan the you paid is lost/forfeited if you want to upgrade in the middle of your usage period.

T-mobile will pay a different phone company termination fees but will not apply money you have already spent to an upgraded plan. Does this make sense to anyone else?

Most other companies jump at the chance to get more money, this should be a non-issue for customer service and satisfaction.

Why will T-Mobile not let you keep the money you have not used in your current plan and apply it to a new plan?
