The insurance for the phone is worthless

My wife's HTC Sensation 4G no longer works. We've had it for over 2 years, and we've been paying $9/month for insurance for it since we bought it. I went to file a claim on it tonight, only to find out there is a $150 deductible that has to be paid. This phone hasn't been worth $150 for over a year. I called T-Mobile to ask about this, and was told the only thing I could do was pay the deductible, or upgrade to a new phone. They're answer is always to upgrade = more money out of my pocket. Had I known that there would be a deductible like this, I would have cancelled the insurance a long time ago. I will be cancelling my insurance when my S4 gets to be a year old - that is if I am still a T-Mobile customer, which I may not be soon. After ten years of loyalty, I would expect better answers than this.
