Alright, so I am currently on Verizon and am very seriously considering switching to T-Mobile under the new Uncarrier 4.0 plan in which T-Mobile will pay my ETF. I have a few questions regarding what is eligible and whether I can eventually end up on the $30/mo prepaid plan with 100 minutes, unlimited text, and unlimited web (5Gb on 4G).
According to the terms of the offer, I must switch to one of the postpaid Simple Choice Plans from my current postpaid Verizon contract, trade in my current device, and purchase a new device through T-Mobile. Switching to a prepaid plan is not eligible.
So, I will go to a T-Mobile store, trade in my existing Verizon Galaxy Nexus, and get a new Nexus 5 under the $60/mo Simple Choice plan, and transfer my number. My credit should qualify, so my first month's bill should be $60+$16.50 = $76.50/mo. I would receive the device credit for the Galaxy Nexus immediately, then when my bill with the Verizon ETF fee comes, I will submit that to T-Mobile, and they will send me the prepaid MasterCard.
Now, the important part. I ideally do not want to remain on the $60 simple choice plan. If, after I send my ETF bill to T-Mobile and they send me the prepaid MasterCard, I want to switch my account as an existing T-Mobile customer (same number, same phone) to the $30 100 minutes, unlimited text + web prepaid plan, is this possible? I may be on the Simple Choice Plan for the first couple of months, but then I would pay off the device installment payment in full so that I pay the remaining of the $396 retail value of the Nexus 5, and all that I am paying would be the $60/mo of the Simple Choice Plan. Then I would switch to the $30/mo. prepaid plan.
Would this work? According to another thread from July of this year, it is possible to switch from a postpaid line to prepaid "without changing your phone, SIM, or mobile number."
I just want to confirm that this will indeed work. If so, I am switching tomorrow. Thanks!
