Are Credit Checks really necessary if I buy my phone outright for a postpaid plan?

I really like what Tmo has done lately and was highly interested in becoming a customer.  Big turn off is even if I buy my phone outright a credit check is necessary.  I understand that there are prepaid accounts and that's fine and dandy but I was told by a Tmobile rep at a local Tmo store that I will not receive the same services on a prepaid as I would on a post paid.  He informed me I would not get the same roaming coverage, no international data included and a few other features.

Unfortunately this is a deciding factor for me.  I find no reason to be penalized simply because I don't want an inquiry on my credit report.  If I decided to become a Tmo subscriber, I would have to pay my bill whether it be pre or post.  Failure to pay on either would end up in service being suspended and cancelled.  I guess the only difference is, with a credit check Tmo can track you and send you to collections for failure to pay on a post paid.  Yet, on a prepaid plan, paying for service ahead of time the customer does not get the same services, as one who pays a month after usage on post paid.

Tmobile is heading in the right direction but I really think they should reevaluate their prepaid plans and gives us an option to have the same services as a post paid without the credit check.
