Can users chat live with customer support?

I have a MyTouch phone on an unlimited talk and text, with a limited data budget.  I want to go on vacation outside my area (and outside my country, live in US, traveling to Canada).  I've talked to Support three times and I've gone in to a store to try and change my plan for just this month and I've gotten 4 different answers from the four contacts.  The change has been made, supposedly, but I can't tell from browsing around in my phone.

 

The vacation has already started, and the very first day I was told I'd already used up all my data for this billing cycle.  The tech at the store said the change would be made retro-actively to the first day of the present billing cycle, so there should be no additional charge for that, and that calling in Canada was also added at the same time.

 

I don't want to come home and find out I have some outrageous bill, so I want to get something in writing before I leave about what the changes are and what the costs will be.  Anyone have any suggestions?
