Why do I have to pay a deposit. At that, why must I pay such a high deposit?

Hello, I went to an T - Mobile today. To purchase a phone with them. So I could have a better phone service at decent prices, while also having a phone I could pay for overtime since I am young, with a first job and going to be attending college soon, I was going to switch from boost mobile. This store I visited was the store located at: 5006 E Fowler Ave  Tampa, FL 33617. When I first entered the store i was greeted by an associate who showed me where the phone I was looking for was located (I had previously researched online for the best regarded phone by users and their reviews.) Once he had led me to the phone, I had not the chance the really look at it until he seemed like he was pressing me to buy it (I was originally ready to go in to make a purchase, I did want to check out the phone for myself though.) While checking out other phones he would come up and pressure me occasionally to make a purchase. He did mention a credit check. Which sounded rather odd. Though fine to me. Being freshly 18 in this world I figured. I had no credit, I had no problems. My mistake I assume. Though once he got my social and saw my license he told me i had to make a $400 dollar deposit. That caught me off guard. i have to say that is very unsatisfactory and borderline careless to customers of all ages and experiences. A deposit would have been fine by me, at a much lower rate. I may have no credit. I don't think I deserve to pay that much though! I am a young man who hasn't even had time to create a credit for myself. Here I am, not even getting a chance. leaving me at such a great disadvantage. On top of that $400 deposit, I was told I had to also pay my money down for the phone and pay for the sim card. That, in my eyes is a slighted mistreatment of customers. The world may not be fair, though this is extremely unfair. I could have handled a $50 dollar deposit. That would have been fine by me, seeing the man estimated that i would be paying $149.99 for the phone and plan and sim card.

So, to summarize my issues with my day today. (Yesterday)

- The associate was slightly pushy.
- The associate was very rushed in his answers to questions, giving me a bare minimum answer to things, also showing to be seemingly irritated with me.

- The associate AND your website gave me false hopes of how much I would be spending on my day of purchase. As well as left me embarrassed when I had to confess I did not have that kind of money with me.

- The $400.00 deposit was very high.

- The fact I would have also had to pay $149.99 which would have left me at a grand total of $549.99.

- Your website told me gave me false hope of having to pay $100 dollars to get started.
- The fact that having a credit check and deposit is fairly well hidden within the internet and your own company page, by offering "pay in advance" payment type. Not everyone has that kind of money. If you want you can hire me and pay me that kind of good money and i'll pay it. One of my favorite aspects was the pay as you go option,

- The company seems to be prestigious against those younger, who have no credit. You not giving them a chance.

- Your customer service isn't that great, a policy of your company leaves me feeling you're a slightly prestigious company, and your website, in some aspects, is misleading.

Also, A manager at this store did not look very friendly at all he was standing around chewing gum and blowing bubbles, completely ignoring my presence while at checkout, not giving me any peace of mind, instead i was angry and disappointed about it for a while.

My ideal solutions:

- Retrain your staff.

- Rethink your policies to suit every customer.

- Fix the website in some points to be more blunt.

- Decrease the amount of my deposit would ideally make me happier to pay it. I know it's a deposit and I should be getting it back in time, though I don't have that kind of money at this time. If I did, wouldn't i just buy the phone? It would cost me about that much anyway.

If I do not feel pleased with the response, nor feel like any effort is put into helping be. I will write a bad review about you guys, As we can see, I can be lengthy and thorough about these things. You're not here for the more unfortunate in this turn of events, when i though you would be. Shame on me.
