Simple Choice Plan Questions
What is the Simple Choice plan?
With the Simple Choice plan, you determine how much 4G data you want and how many lines you need. The Simple Choice plan starts with unlimited talk, text, and web (including up to 500 MB of high-speed data) on our advanced nationwide network, and allows you to add as much extra high-speed data as you want. For more information, see T-Mobile's Simple Choice plan.
When will T-Mobile’s Simple Choice plan be available?
Great news! You can get the Simple Choice plan today.
Will I be forced to migrate to Simple Choice?
You may remain on your existing rate plan.
Why are all T-Mobile plans unlimited?
Our plans are unlimited because we want to ensure that you're not surprised on your bill with overage charges. We can look at past usage history to see if your current plan or the Simple Choice plan would be a better fit.
Rate Plan Contract & Activations Questions
What do you mean no annual service contracts will be required?
T-Mobile is taking a different approach than our competitors’ restrictive wireless contracts that lock you in to long term service contracts. We're getting rid of new annual service contract requirements.
Will the Simple Choice plan require a new two-year service contract?
New customers that signed up on the Simple Choice plan after March 24, 2013, will not have a two-year service agreement requirement. If a device is purchased using an Equipment Installment Plan, there'll be a device agreement with monthly payments, but you can choose to pay off that balance in full at any time. If you cancel wireless service, the remaining balance on the device becomes due.
Will a rate plan change require an annual service contract renewal?
No. Rate plan changes no longer renew the annual service contract. However, any existing annual contract commitment remains.
Are any lines charged an activation fee?
- Web and Telesales transactions will NOT charge an activation fee.
- Discounted device (subsidy) allowed channels will charge activation fees for new Classic plans (such as Best Buy).
- All activations are charged the activation fee and then waived via a Line Level Bill Credit (LLBC) for the Simple Choice plan, as well as Add-A-Line (AAL) to Legacy No Contract plans.
What is the SIM Starter Kit that I've been hearing about?

New Rate Plan Availability & Device Options
What rate plan options are available for an existing customer?
Classic/Legacy/Grandfathered customers can complete a rate plan change to an active Classic plan or Value plan (and pay any migration fees) and Value Legacy plans can complete a rate plan change to the new no contract Value plans. Check out T-Mobile.com/plansfor details.
Is there a limited minutes Add-A-Line (AAL) available on the Simple Choice plan?
No. To eliminate overages, AALs are unlimited on the Simple Choice plan.
Can an existing Value plan customer migrate to the Simple Choice plan without a migration fee?
Yes. Existing Value plan customers can migrate to the new rate plans without a migration fee. However, you'll keep your current annual service contract commitment end date.
Is the Simple Choice plan available to Advantage customers?
Yes. The new plan is available to Advantage customers and eligible for any available corporate discounts.
How do I purchase devices on the Simple Choice plan?
With most options on the Simple Choice plan, you can purchase a great device and pay for it in affordable, monthly installments or use your own unlocked device. Click here for details on payment options.
I’m concerned about the cost of devices. What can you do for me?
You can use your own unlocked device. Or, to make it even more affordable for you to purchase and upgrade your device, we also offer the enhanced Device Trade-In Program. Click here for details.
Classic / Discounted Device Plans
Are Classic plans (discounted device) still available?
Classic plans are available for existing Classic/Legacy customers who need a rate plan change. Customers can also Add-A-Line (AAL) to a Classic/Legacy family plan. However, Classic is no longer available to new customers/numbers in T-Mobile Retail and Branded stores (except in Washington, D.C.).
Data & Smartphone Mobile Hotspot (Tethering)
Do I need to add a data plan for the up-to 500MB of 4G data that's included in the Simple Choice plan?
Yes. While 500MB is a $0 data feature and included in the price of the plan, you still need to make sure you add it to your plan on My T-Mobile as it is a separate service. There's no additional charge when adding the 500MB of data.
If I have a 2.5GB limited bucket data feature and I reach my high speed data limit, will T-Mobile automatically charge me for another 2GB?
No. All data features are unlimited so there’s no overage. However, data speeds are reduced when you reach your high speed data limit. Therefore, if you want more high-speed data, you can pay to increase your available high-speed data feature.
Is Smartphone Mobile Hotspot (tethering) included in the data features or will it need to be added on as a separate feature?
All the data features include Smartphone Mobile Hotspot (SMHS). The unlimited data feature includes up to 500MB of SMHS, and has separate pricing tiers of SMHS usage (500MB to 4.5GB).
Does Smartphone Mobile Hotspot experience data-speed reduction? Or does it shut off (capped) once I reach allotment of high-speed data?
All new data features with limited high-speed data buckets (500MB, 2.5GB, 4.5GB, 6.5GB, 8.5GB, 10.5GB, 12.5GB) will have their tethering (and device) speeds reduced when the high-speed allowance is reached. The Unlimited data feature works a little differently. For Unlimited data features, because tethering is added separately via the Smartphone Mobile Hotspotadd-on features, tethering is tracked separately. Once you reach the tethering allocation on your SMHS add-on feature, tethering will stop (be capped) until the beginning of the next bill cycle.
Mobile Broadband (MBB)
What Mobile Broadband (MBB) plans are available?
MBB plans are available at the same data tiers as data features for voice plans, starting at 500MB and going up to 12.5GB in increments of 2GB. For more information, check out T-Mobile.com/services.
Is Smartphone Mobile Hotspot included in the MBB plans?
Yes. Smartphone Mobile Hotspot is included up to the plan’s allotment of high-speed data.
