New Value No Annual Contract (Simple Choice) Rate Plan Questions

What is the Simple Choice plan?

With the Simple Choice plan, you determine how much 4G data you want and how many lines you need. The Simple Choice plan starts with a base rate of $50. No caps. No overages. This is also referred to as Value No Annual Contract. For more information, click here.

When will T-Mobile’s Simple Choice plan be available?

Great news! You can get the Simple Choice plan today. For more information, click here.

Will I be forced to migrate to Simple Choice?

Good news is you may remain on your existing rate plan.

Why are all T-Mobile plans unlimited?

Our plans are unlimited because we want to ensure that you are not surprised on your bill with unfair overage charges. We can look at past usage history to see if your current plan or one of new plans would be a better fit!

Rate Plan Contract & Activations Questions

What do you mean no annual service contracts will be required?

T-Mobile is taking a different approach to our competitors’ restrictive wireless contracts that lock you  in to long term contracts. We are getting rid of service contracts.

Will the new Value rate plans (Simple Choice) require a new two-year contract?

Value plans that launched after March 24, 2013 will not have a two-year service agreement.

Will a rate plan change require a contract renewal?

No, rate plan changes no longer renew the contract. However, any existing contract remains.

Are any lines charged an activation fee?

  • Web and Telesales transactions will NOT charge an activation fee.
  • Discounted device (subsidy) allowed channels will charge activation fees for new Classic plans (such as Best Buy).
  • All activations are charged the activation fee and then waived via a Line Level Bill Credit (LLBC) for Value No Annual Contract (as well as Add-A-Line (AAL) to Legacy No Contract plans).

What is the SIM Starter Kit that I've been hearing about?

Check out the SIM Starter Kit page for details!

New Rate Plan Availability & Device Options

What rate plan options are available for an existing customer?

Classic/Legacy/Grandfathered customers can complete a rate plan change to an active Classic plan or Value plan (and pay any migration fees) and Value Legacy plans can complete a rate plan change to the new no contract Value plans. Check out T-Mobile.com/plansfor details.

Is there a limited minutes Add-A-Line (AAL) available for the new family Value (Simple Choice) plan?

No, to eliminate unfair overages, plans and AALs are unlimited.

Can an existing Value plan customer migrate to the new Value rate plans (Simple Choice) without a migration fee?

Yes, existing Value plan customers can migrate to the new rate plans without a fee. However, you will retain your current contract end date.

Will the new Value rate plans (Simple Choice) be available to Advantage customers?

Yes, the new plans will be available to Advantage customers and eligible for any available corporate discounts.

How do I purchase devices with these new plans?

I’m concerned about the cost of devices, what can you do for me?

You can use your own un-locked device, or to make it even more affordable for you to purchase and upgrade your device, we also offer the enhanced Device Trade-In Program. Click here for details.

Classic / Discounted Device Plans

Are Classic plans (discounted device) still available?

Classic plans are available for existing Classic/Legacy customers who need a rate plan change. Customers can also Add-A-Line (AAL) to a Classic/Legacy family plan. However, Classic is no longer available to new customers/numbers in T-Mobile Retaila and Branded stores (except in Washington, D.C.).

Data & Smartphone Mobile Hotspot (Tethering)

Do I need to add a data plan for the 500MB of 4G data that says is included in the new Value plans, or is it automatically added?

500 MB is included in the price of the plan, but is added separately by Retail or Customer Service. It is a $0 charge that the representative will automatically add.

If I have a 2.5GB limited bucket data feature and I reach my high speed data limit, will T-Mobile automatically charge me $10 and give me another 2GB?

No. All data features are unlimited so there’s no overage. However, if you want to pay for more high-speed data, you can select a different data feature.

Why would I choose a GB plan, for example 4.5GB or 6.5GB, over the Unlimited data plan?

The 4.5 and 6.5GB data plans include Smartphone Mobile Hotspot (tethering). The Unlimited data plan requires an additional data feature (such as 500MB, 2.5GB, and 4.5GB) to provide that level of Smartphone Mobile Hotspot data bucket. Check out T-Mobile.com/services for details.

Is Smartphone Mobile Hotspot (tethering) included in the data features or will it need to be added on as a separate feature?

All the data features except for the unlimited feature include Smartphone Mobile Hotspot. The unlimited data feature will have separate add on features to allow Smartphone Mobile Hotspot.

Does Smartphone Mobile Hotspot experience data speed reduction or does it shut off (capped) once I reach allotment of high-speed data?

All new data features with limited high-speed data buckets (500MB, 2.5GB, 4.5GB, 6.5GB, 8.5GB, 10.5GB, 12.5GB) will have their tethering (and device) speeds throttled when the high-speed limited is reached. The Unlimited data feature works a little differently. For Unlimited data features, because tethering is added separately via the Smartphone Mobile Hotspotadd-on features, tethering is tracked separately. Once you reach the tethering allocation on your SMHS add-on feature, tethering will stop (be capped) until the beginning of the next bill cycle.

What’s the benefit to me as a 7 year T-Mobile customer when a 1 year customer is getting the same plans and offers?

While the new, simplified pricing model will be the same for everyone, T-Mobile will continue to look for new and exciting ways to reward customers for their loyalty, such as reward programs. Exciting details coming soon!

Mobile Broadband (MBB)

What Mobile Broadband (MBB) plans are available?

MBB plans are available at the same data tiers as data features for voice plans, starting at 500MB and going up to 12.5GB in increments of 2GB. Check out T-Mobile.com/services for details.

Is Smartphone Mobile Hotspot included in the MBB plans?

Yes, Smartphone Mobile Hotspot is included up to the plan’s allotment of high-speed data.
