For those contemplating on switching over to T-mobile, there are quite a few things you should know.
Don't let the sales representatives or commercials fool you when they say that this company is a no contract provider.
They have you under contract, but it's not for their services. Their contract has to do with paying for your phone at full price.
This is how they have you.
They tell you that it is unlimited calling and texting for $40-$50. That includes 500MB of data. But they make you add $20 for unlimited data.
Your monthly bill is already at $70 there. It doesn't stop there. The phone you choose is being paid for at full price. So let's say the retail of your phone is $705. And there is $0 down from the get go. Of course you have to pay for sales taxes so even though they say $0 when you purchase the phone, you're really paying 7%-9% sales taxes, which can get close to $70. Besides that, you pay monthly for your phone. They say it's anywhere from $15-$30 for your phone a month depending on what phone you choose. Add that to your $70 bill a month and you're already at $100 for one line. BUT there is also the Jump program in which sounds nice because they tell you that you can switch your phone every 6 months. Great, you know? NOT. They don't tell you that every time you get a new phone, you turn in the last phone you had, and all the money you put into the last phone is erased. They tell you that they will pay off the rest of your phone and for you to get a new one, you just have to turn yours in. But that's not all. Your balance gets erased, but the new phone has a total new balance. Lets say you were paying like $25 a month for 6 months for the last phone. That's $150 of that phone that you put in. Out of $650, $150 was done. You have a remaining balance of $500. They take back the phone you had, and they give you a new one, but you have to pay all over again. And the retail price is always divided into 24 months.
That right there is $110 a month for their services. And their network doesn't work well in many places! You want quality service? This isn't the place to go.
You may think you're heading into a non-contract company, but paying off the rest of the retail price phone is just like paying a cancellation fee.
My personal experience with this company has been horrible. I've complained to their customer service but overall, they can't really help you. If you're having problems with your phone, they'll exchange it for a refurb. If your phone was stolen or lost or damaged, you're paying a deductible of at least $100. If you want to leave their company, the remaining balance is basically your cancellation fee, NOT to mention paying for the days you had the service even if it wasn't a total month.
READ THE FINE PRINT OF ALL DOCUMENTS BEING SIGNED.
Truthfully they got you by the *****.
T-mobile has to be the worst service I've ever had experience with and I've been to prepaid services that were better than this.
Also, even Verizon has service that is cheaper than T-mobile. And they have the best service based off my experience and many others.
Don't even bother calling their customer service. They are not of any help and they will waste your time moving you to different people to talk to over a long period of time and waiting, and in the end all they can do is pretty much NOTHING.
T-mobile's service doesn't even work well in many areas. If you're not in a major city, I wouldn't bother. Even there, it sucks.
Just saying people. Just think about what you're getting into before you decide you want to go for T-mobile.
After I'm done paying for my phone, goodbye T-mobile for LIFE.
