Learn about T-Mobile's text messaging feature here.
- Text messaging is a two-way mobile messaging service.
- You can use your handsets to send and receive short text and email messages.
- Text messaging allows you to send messages to T-Mobile and non-T-Mobile customers who have text-capable handsets.
- You can send messages to any email address.
- You can have email sent to your device via text message. Each handset has its own email address in this format: your10digitmobilenumber@tmomail.net
Example: 5551234567@tmomail.net
Character Limits
- Messages are typically limited to 160 characters. This includes the email address, subject line, and the body of the message.
- Character limits are 16 for subject line, and 140 for the body of the message.
- Messages that exceed 160 characters will have a text attachment that includes the whole message or automatically be converted to a Picture Message (MMS) depending on your device.
- T-Mobile text messaging does not support attachments; you'll need to use Picture Messaging to attach pictures or videos to a message.
- T-Mobile does not support all symbols, such as:
- Bullet point (•)
- Copyright (©)
- Trademark (™)
- Foreign language symbols.
- If you send a text message with an unsupported symbol, the character will be translated to something similar or replaced with a * symbol.
