Hi I'm sure this has been asked before but the search is not bringing it up so if anyone can point me in the right direction, it would be much appreciated.
I went in to a T-mobile store to purchase a galaxy s4 in full so I can use it with the $30 prepaid plan however, the sales manager told me that:
1.) I couldn't purchase a phone with a prepaid plan unless I used a debit card (only carry my amex and airlines miles card)
2.) Prepaid plans don't allow you to port your old number (switching from Sprint)
3.) Prepaid plans are subject to only 3G data
Not being able to port was a deal breaker so I signed up for a postpaid $60/mo plan because he also said they can't sign you up for the $50/mo plan on activation, I would have to do the $60/mo plan then downgrade a month later if I didn't feel the need for 2.5GB data.
Went home and thought I would try to activate my prepaid sim in my new S4 and surprisingly enough, I was able to port my old number and I was getting 4G LTE speeds (at least that's what the notification bar said). I called T-mobile to inquire and they told me the sales manager was misinformed about the prepaid plan and could cancel my postpaid plan without any charges since my phone was paid in full and I was within my 14 day grace period to cancel without paying any of the plan but when transferred to cancel they told me I would need to cancel in the store I purchased it from since they don't have records of my equipment purchase, how much I paid or what my balance was, or if I was subject to return it on cancellation.
Which brings to the question: Can I go back in the store, cancel the postpaid plan, keep my phone that I paid $660 and go on with life with my $30 prepaid within that 14 day period? Or do I only have two options - cancel the plan and return the phone within said period or wait beyond it to cancel, keep the phone, but pay for a month or whatever prorated charges of the postpaid plan?
Thanks for your insight!
